Rexam performance and talent management

Rexam, the world’s largest beverage can maker and second largest consumer packaging group, is working with ETS to create a stronger performance management culture. This partnership has led to more transparent performance, greater personal development and more effective talent management.

Dirk Vermeire, Group Head – Total Reward and Policy, is responsible for this initiative which runs across all 22,000 employees and 22 countries in which the company operates.

The Performance and Development System has three aims: to improve the performance culture within Rexam, to help employees better develop themselves and to facilitate management of our talent and succession through a set of tools.

The solution is currently in use by the top four levels of management (bands 0-4). The intention is to roll it out to all management grades (bands 0-6) and to non-banded employees. At its heart is a scorecard that individual employees and the company use to track performance, gain insights into people’s development and help the company to grow further. Vermeire says:

The benefit of the programme has been huge. I think we have created the ideal world from a performance management perspective.

The programme has been well received by employees; it’s viewed as a great improvement on the programme that it replaced and the web-based tool suits a globally diverse organisation.

ETS was chosen from a dozen potential suppliers because of their knowledge, technical skills and the creativity that was essential to develop the solution. Vermeire says:

ETS delivered on its promises. The project was delivered on time and on budget. I would describe ETS as a provider of total solutions for talent management and performance management. They are professionals with lots of creativity, a sense of humour and a focus on delivery.
