Go compare: New paper brings role of benchmark data into focus

Benchmark data helps give context and clarity to employee survey results

London, 20 October 2011 - A new original HR insight paper published today by HR consultancy ETS, focuses on the use of benchmark data and what role it can play in delivering a successful employee survey.

Go compare: The role of employee survey benchmark data looks closely at internal versus external benchmarking, how benchmarking can give context to survey results and highlights the latest trends in benchmark data.

Corporate organisations are continuing to make substantial investments in running employee surveys to assess the level of engagement and to get insights that can be used to make and measure business improvements. But to realise the survey’s true value, it is crucial to be able to analyse data accurately and use the data to shape business strategy.

For a number of companies, this is one of the most difficult aspects of running an employee survey. Claire Fryer, Business Psychologist at ETS, explains:

“Drawing simple yet accurate conclusions from a large volume of survey data is a huge challenge. Often it can be hard to establish how positive a survey score is in isolation. Benchmarking results can really help in this instance, providing clarity on results and helping ensure managers have accurate data to inform future action plans.”

Claire Fryer continues:

“Whilst it can play a useful role, benchmarking is only one aspect of a successful employee survey process. In order to maximise a survey’s effectiveness, the most important advice is to tailor the approach to suit the business. This includes identifying the key driver’ of engagement, asking the right questions and agreeing the best action planning approach.”
